Sales Training and Coaching

Enrolled in the competitive journalism school at the University of Missouri with the intent of becoming a broadcast political analyst, O’Byrne left with a Bachelor of Journalism and B.A. in political science. By the completion of her MBA from Rockhurst University, O’Byrne knew the business of journalism was her passion and direction.

“The sales department quickly became my home, I loved the challenge of helping businesses grow.”

Following a successful career as both a television and radio account executive,  O'Byrne launched her managerial career in 1985 as General Sales Manager of KCFX radio. Next, she headed national sales for the radio group, and initiated a national sales consultancy.

Honored with the KC Media Professionals’ “Media Pioneer Award” – O’Byrne joked, “I’m a little young for a ‘pioneer’!”  But this award was historically given to media professionals for on-air excellence, management success, or creative efforts. Recognizing the contribution and importance of the sales executive in the broadcast formula was exciting and groundbreaking.

An advocate for sales and marketing in journalism, O’Byrne quickly said “yes” when asked to “fill in” for a management class at the University of Kansas in 1988.  Now, twenty years later, Professor O’Byrne feels that teaching Message Development and Sales Strategies helps to develop the media and sales professionals of the future.

The next step was obvious. In 1989, O'Byrne co-founded Competitive Resources, and today manages the company, which serves as a resource for personal or team sales training, management and motivational support, and a customized approach to leading your chosen industry. Who do you compete with?  Whether you’re a recent grad building a sales base, or the Bank of America determined to stay on top of the competition, O’Byrne’s approach delivers proven results.

“You don’t have to do it all, just do what’s important.”

A time management consultant, O’Byrne lives by her own advice “ focus on your passion.” Holding positions on several boards, including Catholic Charities and March of Dimes, serving as past president of both the KC/Saint Joseph Diocesan School Board and the KC Media Professionals; O’Byrne has demonstrated her expertise in time management and balance. Negotiating professional and personal interests successfully.

“I’m driven to be the best at what I do,” O’Byrne says, “and I’m driven to help anyone motivated to find their success.”
